Buntaro Kato Memorial Library
This library was built to honor the mountaineer Buntaro Kato, who was from Shinonsen Town. The building was designed to look like the mountains he climbed. What is Geopark?
A Geopark is a kind of Nature Park which has scientifically important or beautiful geological assets.Geoparks are intended to revitalize the local area by utilizing valuable geological heritages for education, tourism and local industry.
San’in Kaigan Geopark
The underlying themes of the Geopark: Geological features, the natural environment, peoples’ lives,
and the formation of the Sea of Japan.
At the San’in Kaigan Geopark, you will find lots of valuable geological assets which relate to the process from when Japan was part of the Asian Continent to its present-day formation of the Sea of Japan.

Tajima coastline tour boat

There is a tour boat, which will take you along the beautiful San’in coastline that is preserved as a national geological park.

Mio Sea Taxi

There are also small fishing boats, which can hold groups of 4 to 5 people and tour some of the caves that the bigger boats cannot reach. There are many rare rock formations and clear emerald waters to explore. There is even the Tajima Mihonoura reef coastline, which was formed from a magma flow and is now designated as a national natural monument.
